September/October 2017

John W. Norris, Mayor, Village of Riverwoods

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and myself, I would like to say thank you to the residents who attended the August 8, 2017 Town Hall meeting on the possible widening of Deerfield Road. by the Lake County Department of Transportation (LCDOT).

Approximately 92 residents attended and provided the Board of Trustees with a diverse cross section of ideas and opinions. You may be assured that we are reviewing all suggestions and comments and incorporating many of them into our strategy for dealing with this issue. In addition, it will be helpful in our dealings with LCDOT to be able to document our residents’ concerns about how widening Deerfield Road would impact our core values as a community.

Finally, we appreciate the way in which the residents conducted themselves. Unlike other communities, in which town meetings often degenerate into shouting matches and chaos, the residents of Riverwoods acted in a mature, reasoned fashion. This allowed everyone to have a chance to be heard. You are all to be commended.

We look forward to talking with you all again sometime this fall after the next Stakeholder Involvement Group meeting conducted by LCDOT.
