Deerfield Road Project Update
The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) held the first of five planned meetings of the Stakeholder Involvement Group (SIG). The SIG is intended to be made up of a diverse group of citizens, local officials, and businesses with a “stake” in how the project is developed.
This first meeting was intended to develop the Preliminary Purpose and Need Statement for the project. At later meetings where the group works to develop the “preferred alternative”, addressing the Purpose and Need for the project will be the first test for any proposed alternatives.
As expected, the SIG presented many differing values and concerns. While some were focused more on congestion relief or impact on property values, there was consensus among the group that safety for both motorized and non-motorized users of the corridor was important.
The SIG meetings are just one part of a Phase 1 Preliminary Engineering and Environmental Study that is ex- pected to take three years to complete. After that comes Phase II, Plan Preparation and Property Acquisition, then Phase III, construction.
The Lake County Department of Transportation has created a website to keep interested parties informed of the project’s progress. The site can be found at www.DeerfieldRoadCorridor.com.
The next meeting of the SIG will be held in the Summer of 2017.
