Virtual Artist Talk: Rethinking Audubon | March 7, 3 - 4pm @ Brushwood Center

Elrick Virtual Artist Talk

Join a dynamic virtual discussion, featuring Krista Elrick, the artist behind Brushwood Center's newest exhibition Where Are The Birds? Retracing Audubon.  Krista joins Gregory Nobles, historian, and Judy Pollock, Chicago Audubon Society president, to discuss the exhibition and the troubled history of John James Audubon and the lands he visited.

This discussion will explore:

  • The exhibition origins and how it was created
  • How Audubon's life and legend connect to current conversations about race, gender, identity, and the environment
  • How Audubon related to the Audubon Society and the environmental movement
  • Why groups like Chicago Audubon Society are dropping "Audubon" from their name to create more inclusive and joyful spaces for people to care for and connect with nature.

Brushwood Center works to improve health equity through community, nature, and the arts. Brushwood Center's art exhibitions reflect diverse voices, whose work explore themes on justice and freedom, identity, and the expanding narratives on the natural world. Brushwood invites you to view this timely exhibition as we enter migratory bird season in Chicago and the surrounding areas. If you're interested in birding or intersectional environmental work, Krista Elrick's engaging and impactful exhibition is not to be missed!

This program is free of charge, but registration is required. Contact Brushwood Center's Manager of Public Programs and Communications, Parker Nelson, at pnelson@brushwoodcenter.org with any questions.  Click here to learn more and register to attend.
