Mosquito

Illinois is in peak season for West Nile Virus (WNV). WNV is spread to people through bites from infected mosquitoes. The best way to prevent West Nile is to protect yourself from mosquito bites:

  • Use an EPA registered mosquito repellent
  • Wear proper attire: loose fitting, long-sleeved shirts and pants
  • Eliminate or drain items that can hold standing/stagnant water
  • Use screens in windows and doors (air conditioning, if available) to keep mosquitoes outside
