Deerfield Townhome Fire and Important Safety Reminders from Fire Chief Krueger

Smoke Detector
In a swift response to a kitchen fire emergency that resulted in the rescue of two civilians, the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Department was summoned to the 600 block of Martin Lane in Deerfield earlier this month. The incident underscores the crucial role of fire safety measures in protecting lives and property within our community.

The fire, originating in the kitchen area of a townhome, serves as a timely reminder of the importance of vigilance and preparedness, especially in high-risk areas such as kitchens.

Fire Chief Tom Krueger seized the opportunity to reiterate vital safety precautions:
  • Keeping doors and windows closed during a fire can significantly impede its progress by restricting oxygen flow. "Oxygen is a primary fuel for fires. Closing doors and windows helps to limit the supply of oxygen to the flames, thus slowing down the spread of the fire and buying valuable time for evacuation and firefighting efforts.
  • Furthermore, having working smoke detectors installed throughout homes is critical. These early warning systems play a vital role in alerting residents to potential dangers, providing essential time for evacuation.
