On April 2nd, the Riverwoods Police Department received a Tier One Accreditation Award from the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP). ILEAP Assessors reviewed the Department’s accreditation files, policies, and procedures, inspected the Police Department facility, and interviewed several Department staff members and Village Hall personnel. The assessors found that all 264 ILEAP standards and sub-standards had been met.

This is the Riverwoods Police Department’s second time going through the four-year accreditation process. The Department received its initial accreditation award in 2020.

Of the over 800 law enforcement agencies in Illinois, only 61 have been awarded accreditation by ILEAP and another 46 by The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, CALEA.

The award was presented by Lincolnshire Police Chief Joe Leonas, 2nd Vice President of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, at the Village Board of Trustees Meeting.
