Knox Box - How will First Responders get to you in an Emergency if the Door to Your House is Locked?

Knox Box

When public safety personnel respond to an emergency incident and the property is locked, they first check all doors and windows to see if access is possible without forcible entry.  If the residence is locked, it limits the emergency responders to two choices:

  • Option one is to force entry into the home, which will cause some damage to the door and frame, but life and safety take priority over property damage.
  • Option two is to access a “Knox Box," a special lockbox purchased by the homeowner, that allows only the Fire Department to access your key.

Knox® Rapid Access System

Knox Rapid Access Solutions provides first responders with immediate access into secure buildings, residences and commercial properties when time is critical.  Removing barriers to entry reduces injuries to responders and minimizes property damage. Additional Knox Box benefits include:

  • Makes re-securing property easier and faster
  • Provides an audit trail activity report
  • Fire code compliance
