Construction has Begun on Saunders Road Sanitary Force Main

Please note there will be times when Saunders Road north of Deerfield Road will only be open to local traffic.

The following message is from Lake County Public Works:

Dear Resident,

As a part of Lake County’s Capital Improvement Program, Lake County Public Works (LCPW) will be constructing a new sanitary force main along Saunders Road. The project is necessary to increase the sanitary system capacity in the area. Work will take place on the east side of Saunders Road from the intersection of Riverwoods Road and Saunders Road to the north of West Course Drive.

Project work will consist of open excavation and directional drilling of the new force main. The installation will occur within the right-of-way and secured easements. Right-of way, secured easements and disturbed areas will be restored upon project completion. Residents may experience truck traffic, periodic lane closures, and equipment noise during construction. Construction of these improvements will occur from November 8, 2023 - December 22, 2023, and from February 1, 2024 - April 30, 2024. Phase 2 of the project from West Course Drive to Duffy Lane is anticipated to be constructed in 2025.

Saunders Road will remain open to residents and local traffic.  During construction there will be barricades at Duffy Lane and Saunders Road and at North Riverwoods Road and Saunders Road.   The barricades will have signs stating “Road Closed to Through Traffic” and “Local Traffic Only”.  This means only drivers who need access to properties along Saunders Road will be able to utilize Saunders Road.  Any vehicle using Saunders Road as a connecting point to Duffy Lane or Riverwoods Road, with no stops along Saunders Road, will need to use a different route.

LCPW is proactive in maintaining infrastructure and a primary way to ensure continued service is by investing in infrastructure that will provide additional capacity. For more information on the project, visit our website at: www.lakecountyil.gov/Saunders.

Tom Miles
