Transportation of Asylum Seekers

Much has been in the news regarding the transportation of those seeking asylum in our country.  Chicago itself has received tens of thousands of individuals by bus.  Many Chicago suburbs are now experiencing the sad event of people being dropped off by buses far from support services necessary for their safe arrival.  While we do not expect this to impact Riverwoods directly, we should be prepared to welcome and appropriately assist any travelers who may end up on our doorstep.  We have received guidance from Lake County and messages from the State, and we are mindful of what other communities are doing.  Our Police Department is aware of all these communications and has also been in contact with their counterparts in other municipalities.  We will be discussing our response and possible action plans at our next Board meeting on Tuesday January 16 in Village Hall.
